Honey
3 Proven health benefits (https://www.quechoisir.org/conseils-miel-3-vertus-sante-prouvees-n103256/)
There is no need to turn to the noble products of the hive such as royal jelly. It is the humble honey that does the most good.
1. REPLACE THE SUGAR
From a nutritional point of view, honey is a real alternative to white sugar (also called refined sugar). In addition to being tasty, it provides some vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. But its real advantage is its high sweetening power. For white sugar, which serves as a reference, it is set at 100. For honey, it is 130. This means that a lower dose is needed to perceive a sweet taste. Honey is therefore a preferred option for yoghurts and other desserts.
2. RELIEVE SORE THROAT
Traditionally, honey is used in hot drinks to treat winter illnesses. This reflex is partly correct: in the event of an acute cough - linked to a viral infection, for example - it tends to reduce coughing episodes, particularly at night. This may be due to the salivation reflex generated by its sweet taste, which is thought to increase mucus production, thus relieving inflammation of the larynx and pharynx. Honey also has antibacterial properties. But to get the most benefit from it, it should not be heated. So avoid adding it to hot tea or milk. Instead, take it as it is, with a spoon.
3. CARE FOR WOUNDS
Honey can be applied directly to the skin: it helps to speed up the healing of wounds and burns. It forms a protective film on the wound and limits the adhesion of the dressing to it. It also prevents bacteria from becoming more resistant by forming a biofilm. There are several properties that explain this. Honey has a slightly acidic pH, is rich in sugar and low in water, which is not conducive to the survival of bacteria. It also secretes hydrogen peroxide, which has an antibacterial effect.
Caution. This use should be limited to a family setting and for small, benign wounds. If the wound or burn is too large or does not heal well, or if there is a risk of infection, consult a doctor.
